Trees

Gridley has earned the designation “Tree City USA” the last 25 years for its commitment to a green community and tree care. This year, the Village Board planted 50 trees along the western edge of the Cemetery.  In 2021, the Village Board approved the purchase of 50 trees to be planted throughout the community. This is in addition to the 20 trees planted in 2020. The trees were planted in town and at the Gridley Cemetery. Private citizens donated several trees to the cemetery and the Village coordinated the work.

Storm Sewage Upgrade

Storm sewer water run-off has been a decades-long issue for the Village. In 2021, the Village added a new leg of storm sewer pipe and tile as Phase 1 to address the problem. The new route cost $800,000 and was paid for with cash on hand. Further upgrades will be made to existing infrastructure as monies are available.

Swimming Pool Mechanics

In efforts to update the community swimming pool and steward tax dollars wisely, the Village Board spent $215,000 in upgrades to the pool mechanicals and pump room. All of the upgrades were paid with cash on hand in 2021.

Gardens at the Parks

The gardens at City Park and Westview Park were designed and planted in years past.  They continue to thrive under the skilled care of Gridley resident and Master Gardener, Colleen Whisker.

City Park: Veteran’s Memorial

In 2018 and 2019, the Village partnered with the American Legion Post 218 and citizens to raise funds to upgrade the Veterans Memorial. The footprint was expanded to add more seating, signage and landscaping. The renovated memorial was dedicated at Gridley’s Memorial Day celebrations on May 27, 2019. The Village plans to maintain this park memorial as an ongoing tribute to those serving in our military forces.
